Review: Dangerous Temptation

Dangerous Temptation Dangerous Temptation by Giana Darling
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This duet is part of the Midnight Dynasty series. This is a duet, so please read in order. Dangerous Temptation is the first, Beautiful Nightmare is the second and last book in the duet, coming December 14th 2021.

Trigger warnings: Gore and violence, drug abuse, epilepsy episodes, slight BDSM-like elements, infidelity, mention of homophobia, facial scarring, age-gap romance, child abuse.

I thought this book would be a simple lusty mafia romance ride. But my god, I was proven wrong so damn bad at every time.

There were so many important issues discussed like the FMC's brother's epilepsy, drug abuse, infidelity, facial scarring, self-deprecating humor, and homophobia.

Fancy writing swayed me even harder towards both MCs and the side Cs just because they had such a 3d personality, and their own issues were explored as well which yes, made me stay up past 5 am to finish this book (yes I was that addicted to read and finish it).

Despite the 12 year age gap between the two MCs, there was just so much chemistry, tension and my god what a new concept but emotional understanding as well, which I hope gets explored more in the next book, but I loved the preview! Plus Henrik, Walcott, and Ezra (I think), were just so damn wonderful to the FMC and her brother, plus their own past tragedies and how they grow to accept it, made me swoon and cry almost with how touchingly and achingly tragic it all was, and how even the most high flying humans can have their own fall from grace too, as this book apparently seems to teach.

This novel overall was so much and more, and I was never left disappointed. I don't think I have any proper words to address just how dark, delicious and utterly wonderful this book was, just like having dark chocolate, hehe.

But so worth it was, to read and enjoy this so damn much. Can't wait for the next book.

Until the next read,

-TMR

Review: Enter the Black Oak

Enter the Black Oak Enter the Black Oak by Monique Edenwood
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thrilling writing brilliant characters and a twisted but scorching in full heat plot make up for an amazing story overall in this dark paranormal romance!

I loved spending all my time with these characters and getting immersed in the setting, the writing hooking me in beyond doubt that it would be a book I’d never forget.

Until the next read,

Review: Outflanking the Flanker

Outflanking the Flanker Outflanking the Flanker by Nicole Phoenix
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I hate assumptions. I hate hot messes. I hate stupid characters who are judgmental and make up minds without logic.

And that’s what this book was. A hot mess at the end. I had so much hope for Andrew and Chloe but my god the amount of ping pong and confusion and judgmental convos they had at times pissed me off too much to continue this book.

The writing was okay but it could not salvage the characters. Or the plot line. So I dnfed it.

But I will read the second novel in hopes it’ll be better than this one.

Until the next read,

Review: A Photo Finish

A Photo Finish

A Photo Finish by Elsie Silver
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Trigger Warnings: mention of PTSD, past death of a family member, mention of past body shaming.

I absolutely enjoyed this book. It was riveting, exquisite and full speeding on romance, chemistry and emotional feels my heart was sure it could not contain.

Cole and Violet were complete opposites of each other, yet they fit each other so perfectly - in the way they understood each other's pain of sometimes being the rebel of the crowd, having to face their own issues involving their pasts, and forgiving themselves and other people for past mistakes made.

The emotional depth blew me away - Cole's issues were discussed so deeply and how he felt about them, and how he felt other people felt about his issues. Violet was also no different, having to make it out on her own and proving herself to people who either worried too much or were inching to take her down a peg or two because they felt she didn't belong and had cashed into an opportunity by sheer luck - her thoughts about it were often shared in depth as well.

Also I got quite an equestrian lesson myself - despite being afraid of horses (and people generally as well), I was quite sucked into learning about a jockey's daily activities and how they planned before a race every time. Also how they managed to keep up on the horse (hehe pun time), despite feeling insecure about a lot of things.

I loved the chemistry and romance as well, and how it took a lot of time to make them come together and realise just how perfect they were for each other, despite having to tackle some of their own issues they probably were too reluctant to face before.

The writing style was brilliant enough to keep me hooked in the entire time and never let go, just so invested and thoroughly curious I was left each time I read a chapter. The writing really tied in everything together quite well, and I am so glad I stuck around for the ride that was Cole and Violet.

Overall an amazing, emotionally depth-full and fiery novel by Elsie and I look forward to reading more by her.

Until the next read,
